It offers a fascinating insight into the long and living monastic tradition of Tibetan culture and makes you acquainted with lifestyles of east Tibet's friendly inhabitants. Meet with the Amdowas and Khampas in some of the most stunning and lovely landscapes of the wohole of Tibet.
ITINERARY
(B = breakfast, L = lunch, D = dinner inclusive)
Day 1 Beijing - Lanzhou (L+D) Arrive Beijing and fly to Lanzhou. (Lanzhou airport-Lanzhou 90 km) Overnight at Lanzhou Jincheng Hotel or similar standard.
Day 2 Lanzhou - Labrang (B+L+D) (280 km) Visit to the Binglingsi Caves and drive to Labrang via Linxia. Overnight at Labrang Hotel. Note: Information on the cultural sites visited in Amdo can be found in follwing books: see below]
Day 3 (B+L+D) Labrang - Tongren

Visit to Labrang and drive to Tongren. Overnight at Huangnan Hotel in Tongren.
Day 4 (B+L+D) Tongren - Xining
(230 km)
Possibility to visit Tongren's largest monastery, Rongwo Gompa (Chin. Longwu Si), or one of the Wutun Temples, home of the celebrated Tibetan Rebkong Art.
Day 5 (B+L+D) Xining - Lake Kokonor - Xining
(380 km)
Full day excursion to Lake Kokonor
Day 6 (B+L+D) Xining - Kumbum - Guide
After a visit to Kumbum Monastery (Chin. Taer Si), we continue our drive to Guide - an old walled town situated on the banks of Ma Chu (Yellow River).
Day 7 Guide - Machen / Anyemachen (B+L+D) (324 km) Drive to Machen/Anyemachen with a visit to Rakya Monastery.
Day 8 Machen - Maduo (B+L+D) (483 km) Drive to Maduo, a small county town extending in the 4200-up m high lying grasslands of the Yellow River sources. Overnight at a local guest house.
Day 9 (B+L+D) Maduo - Xiewu - Yushu
(400 km)
Drive to Xiewu, en route visit to Drubgye Gompa (Chin. Zhujie Si) and eventually continue on to Yushu, the old Tibetan town of Jyekundo.
Day 10 Yushu (B+L+D)
(50 km)
Drive to Yushu and visit the Sakyapa monastery Döndrub Ling (Jyeku Gompa).
Day 11 Yushu - Shiqu (B+L+D) (143 km) Continuation of Yushu visit and then drive to Shiqu (Tib. Serxhül). Overnight at local guest house.
Day 12 (B+L+D) Shiqu - Manigango
(227 km)
Drive to Manigango and visit to Dzogchen Monastery (Chin. Zhuqing Temple).
Day 13 Manigango - Dege (B+L+D) (112 km) Drive to Dege, the former Tibetan kingdom and cultural center of Kham. Visit to the famous printing press and monastery.
Day 14 (B+L+D) Dege - Ganze
(207 km)
Continuation of visiting Dege and drive to Ganze.
Day 15 (B+L+D) Ganze - Tagong
(247 km)
Drive to Tagong. Overnight at local guest house.
Day 16 Tagong - Lithang (B+L+D) (279 km) Visit to Tagong Monastery and stupas before driving to Lithang. Overnight at local guest house.
Day 17 Lithang - Zhongdian (B+L+D)
(426 km)
Drive to Zhongdian (Gyalthang in Tibetan, the Shangrila). Overnight at Gyalthang Dzonge Hotel.
Day 18 (B+L+D) Zhongdian
(60 km)
Full day explore Zhongdian including highland lake Napahai or Sudu Lake and the large Gelukpa monastery Ganden Sumtsen Ling.
Day 19 (B+L+D) Zhongdian - Lijiang
(200 km)
Drive to Lijiang and visit to home of Naxi people who even now maintain a matriarchal society in the shadow of the sacred Jade Dragon Mountain. Overnight at Lijiang Hotel.
Day 21 Kunming - Hong Kong
(alternatively: Beijing or Shanghai)Arrive Kunming at 06:45AM. Transfer to airport and fly to home via Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing or Shanghai.

All transfers, Beijing-Lanzhou (Y class), Dali-Kunming soft sleeper train, accommodations on twin share basis, full board, Toyota jeeps, all sightseeing and entrance fees, guide and driver service, a welcome and a farewell banquet, all travel permits, domestic travel insurance, a national guide from Lanzhou to Kunming.SERVICE EXCLUDES:
